Esquire - January 2010

Restaurant of the Year.

Chefs Chris Lester and Kelly Jackson have recreated the spirit of the original Shoreditch restaurant in London, right here in the shadow of the towering Burj Dubai. And it isn't just the British expatriates who are getting their fill. While some non-Brits may wonder how the largest empire in the world was built on a diet of such irreverently-named delicacies as faggots and mushy peas, bubble & squeak and spotted dick, the rest of us worldly gourmets can get stuck in with lashings of HP suace. But it isn't just the seasonal British food that keeps us coming back for seconds - the atmosphere is refreshingly unstuffy, the setting is impressive and the suave-yet-affable maitre d' and his team ensure that the service is second to none. And although the decor is suitably understated, scrawls of twisted neon adorn the walls with quirky statements like"I love to boo hoo!" There will be every cause to cry if you miss out on our restaurant of the year.
